Individuals : ARMSTRONG Pollyann

Quote from the original source document :
From: Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home Inc.
Polly Ann (Armstrong) Donlon, 84, died peacefully at her home in Watervliet on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Salem, NY on August 20, 1926, Polly was one of eleven children born to the late Carson and Ruth (Crosier) Armstrong. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph L. Donlon who died in 1983. A longtime Watervliet resident, Polly was employed, for more than 30 years, as a cashier by Central Market Supermarkets which later became the Price Chopper Supermarkets in the Cohoes and Latham stores. In 1953 she was awarded "Cashier of the Year" by Central Market and was presented with a trip to Chicago in recognition of her efforts. She served as a school crossing guard in Watervliet, always looking out for the children of Watervliet. Polly enjoyed spending the summer months at the Alpine Lake Campground in Corinth, NY. In addition to camping, relaxation and spending time with family and friends, she could also be found voluntarily doing many of the duties usually reserved for the working staff of the campground. This lovingly earned her the title of "The Unofficial Queen of Alpine Lake". She also enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came naturally to Polly and they provided her with much pride and pleasure. She enjoyed being with them as often as she could and attended many of the events they were involved in. She even went so far as to coach the Little League Baseball Teams they played on and serve as Den Mother of their Cub Scout Packs. Generous to a fault, Polly loved to do things for others, and would often, especially at Christmas-time, serve the needy families of the area. She also volunteered her time to the Elise Donlon Foundation in memory of her cherished granddaughter and even once had her head shaved on St. Baldrick’s Day to raise awareness and money to help conquer kids’ cancer. Loved by many, Polly will be missed by her family, friends and her community. She was the loving mother of Robert A. (Mary) LaMarche of Clifton Park, Polly Decker of Watervliet, Patricia Becker of Troy, David J. (Sarah) Donlon of Latham, Patrick S. (Kristin) Donlon of Watervliet and the late Larry Donlon whose wife Judy of Cohoes survives; dear sister of Inez Remalli of Watervliet, Carson "Corky" Armstrong of Binghamton, NY and Peter "Butch" Galvin of Minnesota. She is also survived by 15 cherished grandchildren, 21 adoring great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Community Hospice for their services during Polly’s last days. A funeral service will be held for Polly on Saturday at 10 am in the Watervliet United Methodist Church, 1401 First Avenue, where the Reverend Robert J. Peters will officiate. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway in Watervliet on Friday from 4 until 8pm. In keeping with Polly’s love for her grandchildren and with her generous spirit, contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Elise Donlon Foundation, 12 Graffin Drive, Latham, NY 12110 in her memory.
