SAMUEL GARDNER FULLER.
Samuel Gardner Fuller, sexton of the Congregational church and cemetery at Dalton. is a representative of the Fuller family of English origin that was established in America about the middle of the eighteenth century. The early representatives of the name were sea captains, and
William Fuller, grandfather of Samuel W. Fuller, was master of a vessel engaged in trade with the West Indies and sailing from the ports of Salem and Boston. He had several children, including Spencer Fuller, who settled at Whitingham, Vermont, and afterward lived in various places in Windom county, that state. In his earh^ years he learned the shoemaker's trade, which he followed for a long period. He engaged in the manufacture of shoes, but during- the last years of his life devoted his attention to agricultural pursuits. He married Maria Fleming, of Hinsdale, New Hampshire, and they had eight children : Elmira, born in 1837, died at the age of three years; Samuel G., born in Halifax, Vermont, May 24, 18-I0; Hiram W., born February 8, 1842, now lives in Halifax, Vermont; Harvey A., born March 10, 1844, is a resident of Pittsfield, Massachusetts; Jerua, born in 1846, is the wife of John F. Gallup, of Dover, Vermont; Jerusha, born in 1849, is the wife of Gordon Cutler, of Palmer, Vermont; Evelyn, born in 1853, is the widow of Addison Eams, her home being in Halifax, Vermont; and Willard, who died at the age of nine years.
Samuel Gardner Fuller, of this review, was born May 24, 1840, in Halifax, Vermont, and in his early boyhood attended the district schools. He assisted his father in the manufacture of shoes, and at
the age of nineteen years started out upon an independent business career. He was employed at various places until the outbreak of the Civil war, when he enlisted for nine months' service as a member of Company F, Sixteenth Vermont Regiment, at Searsbury, Vermont, in 1862. When his first term of service had expired he immediately re- enlisted in June, 1863, and became a member of Company E, Sixth Ver- mont Volunteer Infantry, serving with that command until the close of the war. He was in the army for almost three years and gives some very graphic descriptions of some of the battles in which he participated, inchiding- the engag-ements at Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Cold Har- bor. Slaughters Pen. Petersburg. Weldon Railroad, again at Petersburg and in the siege of Richmond. He was never taken prisoner and was only slightly wounded on three occasions. He was one of fifty men who volunteered for skirmish duty at the battle of Weldon Railroad, and was the only one of them to return alive. Following the close of the war Mr. Fuller returned to his native state, and two years later was married on the 2d of April, 1867, to Miss Anna P. Crosier, of Searsbury. Vermont, the wedding taking place in Colerain, Massachusetts.
He afterward lived in Halifax. Vermont, for a short time, thence removed to Wilmington and afterward came to Dalton. Here he drove the mail wagon and conducted an express business for about five years, while his wife conducted the Crane Company boarding house in Dalton. Two children have been the issue of this union : Minnie Julia, born at Reedsboro, Vermont, April 21, 1870; and Samuel Scott, born in Searsbury, Vermont, October 22. 1873. He died in Dalton, July 15, 1887, and his loss was deeply mourned by his parents and many friends. In his later years Mr. Fuller has been sexton of the Congregational church and cemetery, and his wife and daughter are employed in the paper mills
of the Crane Company. All are members of the CongTegational church and take an active part in its work. Mr. Fuller is a stanch Republican in politics. He and his family occupy a handsome home in the town of Dalton.

Daniel Roger Phelps (1941 - 2015)
Daniel was born August 29, 1941 in the Colrain village of Shattuckville, son of Roger and Dorothy (Richardson) Phelps. His family moved to Ashfield when he was ten. He attended and graduated from Sanderson Academy. Immediately following graduation, he entered the US Navy where he served as a signalman. Upon completion of his tour of duty he moved to the Springfield area where he held several different jobs. Eventually, he settled in Longmeadow and became a Police Officer in that town. With the backing of his family, he left police work to create a new specialty company, Parts Four. He proudly operated the company for twenty-five years. Later on, he transported Special Needs students until health forced him to retire.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Priscilla Crosier, two sons Daniel, Jr. and Peter and their wives. He has three granddaughters: Abigail, Nancy, and Heidi Phelps. Other surviving family include his four sisters Susan Rice, Donna Lynch, Marjorie Wallner, Robin Phelps, their spouses and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Edge Hill Golf Course, 298 Barnes Road, Ashfield, MA 01330.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Highland Ambulance EMS Inc., 56 Main Street, Goshen, M 01032 or to the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Soc., 163 Montague Road, Leverett, MA 01054.

Hyde Park-Donald Emery Allaire, 93, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. He was born August 6, 1922 in Elmore, the son of Peter J. and Helen (Foss) Allaire. Donald married Ramonia Crosier on June 26, 1948 at St. Teresa’s rectory in Hyde Park.
Donald was a kind, gentle and generous man who was always willing to help in any way he could. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of the VFW. He was employed in several different fields during his lifetime including farming, core drilling, ski repair, carpentry and caretaking. He especially enjoyed his work as a caretaker. Donald also had many interests and hobbies including fishing, hunting and trapping. He was a talented gardener and beekeeper. He also raised sheep for wool.
He is survived by his wife, Ramonia; daughter, Gisele Hodgdon and husband, Terry of Montpelier and son, Brent Allaire of Morrisville; grandsons, Ian Hodgdon and Jeremy Allaire and his wife, Samantha; great-granddaughter, Abigail Allaire; one brother, Norman Allaire of Irasburg; one half-sister, Rachel Towers and husband, Ralph of Richmond; two half-brothers, Levi Allaire and wife, Bonnie of Essex Center and Raymond Allaire of Colchester. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by siblings, Philip Allaire, Lea Daily and Marcel Allaire.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Faith Funeral Home, 165 Brooklyn St., Morrisville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 16 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Teresa’s Church in Hyde Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Donald’s name to Rural Community Transportation, 1677 Industrial Parkway, Lyndonville, VT 05851.

Rita E. Petersen, 73, of Fremont died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
She was born Dec. 2, 1936, in Liberty to Joseph and Mae (Maine) Crosier. She grew up on her family’s farm near Liberty and graduated from high school at Barneston in 1954. After graduation, she moved to Omaha and worked for Mutual of Omaha. After she married, they moved to a farm in the Shelby and Tennant, Iowa, vicinity. In 1969, they moved into Shelby and she worked at REM-LEAD WAY. In 1995, they moved to Fremont where she worked at Wendy’s and later at USA Steak Buffet.
She married Donald E. Petersen on Feb. 2, 1957, in Mission Creek. He died March 10, 1995. She was a lifelong member of Tennant Methodist Church until it closed.
Survivors include: a son, Dennis Petersen of Fremont; two daughters, Debra (and husband, Roger) Baker of New York Mills, Minn., and Kila (and husband, Jim) Baker of Fremont; two sisters, Gene Cameron of Summerfield, Kan., and LaVon Vaughn of Pawnee City; sister-in-law, Helen (and husband, Leonard) Maly of Fremont; and six grandchildren, Christa, Katie, Kelly, Lad (and wife, Carissa), Ian (and fiancee, Courtney Thomas) and Kaleb Baker.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald "Val" Crosier; a sister, Betty Morrison; and brothers-in-law, "Hub" Morrison, Harlan Cameron and Galen "Gay" Vaughn.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home. Private family burial will be in Shelby Cemetery in Shelby, Iowa.

BARRE - A Mass of Christian burial was con-celebrated Thursday, May 14, 2009, at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre for Ruthmary C. Crosier, who passed away May 8, 2009, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
The principal celebrant was Monsignor Raymond Crosier (brother of the deceased), assisted by Monsignor Peter A. Routhier, vicar general and pastor of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral of Burlington, and the Rev. Leopold J. Bilodeau, pastor of St. Monica Catholic Church. Robert Bates was crucifer and altar server.
Organist Angeline Ennis accompanied vocalists Mary Whyte and Ronald Routhier in the hymns "Amazing Grace," "The Lord Is My Shepherd," "Ave Maria," "I Am the Bread of Life" and "How Great Thou Art."
Words of remembrance were offered by Monsignor Crosier and Joseph A. Crosier Jr., both brothers of the deceased.The Old Testament readings were read by Elizabeth Bond, a family friend, and Monsignor Routhier read scriptures from the New Testament and also led the Prayer of the Faithful.
Monsignor Crosier read the Gospel.
Offertory gifts were presented at the altar by Michael A. Quaranta Jr., son of the deceased; Tiffany A. Vitagliano, daughter, and Joseph A. Crosier Jr., brother.
Pallbearers were Edward Ferrari, Real Maurice, Henry Bilodeau, Raymond LaCroix, Andre Rouleau and William Robie, all members of the Knights of Columbus.
A prayer service was held Wednesday evening at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre and was led by Monsignor Crosier and the Rev. Bilodeau.
Burial followed the Mass in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Duxbury, Vt., where Monsignor Crosier offered committal prayers.
Following the burial, family and friends gathered at the Hilltop Restaurant on Quarry Hill Road for a time of fellowship and luncheon.

Ruthmary C. Crosier
BARRE - Ruthmary C. Crosier, 58, of 1 Bromur St., passed away after a long illness on Friday, May 8, 2009, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Barre City on Aug. 10, 1950, she was the daughter of Carmen M. Crosier and the late Joseph A Crosier Sr.
Ruthmary graduated from Marion High School in 1968, and attended St. Joseph the Provider Catholic College in Rutland.
After her schooling, Ruthmary worked for Barre Electric, the state of Vermont and retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont.
In 1970, Ruthmary married Michael A. Quaranta Sr., in St. Monica Church. They later divorced. During their marriage, she and her husband owned and operated Emslie the Florist in Montpelier from 1972 through 1982.
Ruthmary remained a lifelong member of Saint Monica's Catholic Parish, and member of The Ladies of the Knights of Columbus.
Ruthmary enjoyed horseback riding, music, dancing, classic movies and spending time with her two children. Ruthmary always had a joke ready. She had a beautiful smile and contagious laugh that would brighten up any room, and make any day that much better.
Survivors include her mother Carmen Crosier of Barre; her brothers Joseph A. Crosier Jr. of Barre, and Monsignior Raymond Crosier of Amarillo, Texas; her aunt Conchita Bouchard of Bristol, Conn.; her cousins Francis Mier of Berlin, Vt., Mary Conchita Prycznewski of Bristol, and Theresa Brantley of E. Lansing Mich.; her pets Gizzie and Mikey; two children, Tiffany A. Quaranta-Vitagliano of Barre, and Michael A. Quaranta Jr, of Albany, N.Y.
Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Monica Catholic Church on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Msgr. Raymond Crosier main celebrant. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Duxbury, Vt.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Saint Monica Catholic Church, 79 Summer Street, Barre, VT 05641.

Charles Jr.'s farm was on the east bank of the Deerfield River where the boat launching area is now. The cellar hole is still visible in the edge of the woods to the east. Apparently he and his 2nd and 3rd wives are buried down hill and to the northeast of the house and were relocated to the Cutting Cem. when the railroad came through.
