Marilyn A. Caldwell
June 4, 2008
The Mining Journal
SKANDIA - Marilyn A. Caldwell, 72, of Skandia, Mich., died on Monday, May 26, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, Mich., of complications related to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
She was born March 2, 1936, in North Adams, Mass., to Ernest and Catherine (Crosier) Del Debbio. She graduated from Drury High School in 1953 and Bliss Business College in 1956. Marilyn worked in the family-owned jewelry store until her marriage to Bruce W. Caldwell of Jacksonville, Vt., on September 21, 1957, at St. Anthony’s Church in North Adams. She traveled with her husband throughout his career in the U.S. Air Force, settling in Skandia after his retirement in 1973.
Marilyn will be affectionately remembered by friends and family as "the woman who knows everything." She was one determined lady: strong, generous, practical and tenacious. Over the last years of her life, Marilyn got smaller and smaller, but her personality remained larger than life. She gave Bruce a run for his money through fifty happy years of marriage, remaining his "little red-haired girl" until the end, and she raised three children who throughout their lives went to her for support and encouragement - and found it, with no strings (or judgments) attached. She and her only grandchild were co-conspirators and the very best of friends.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce; their children, Susan (David) Williams of Montrose, Mich., Kimberly (Steven) Nelson of Marinette, Wis., and Scott (special friend Chris Perala) Caldwell of Marquette, Mich.; granddaughter, Aina Mae (fiance Brian Kehoe) Hendrickson of Marquette; her brother, Ernest (Sydney) Del Debbio; nephew, Craig Del Debbio of North Adams, Mass.; and dearest friends Joe and Karen Rhodes of Marquette.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Dorothy Dick of Connecticut.
In accordance with Marilyn’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. O’Guinn Family Funeral Homes in Clio, Mich., is assisting the family. Condolences to the family may be sent in care of Susan Williams, 14411 Sheridan Road, Montrose, MI 48457.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Danek and his staff at Respiratory Medicine in Marquette for the exemplary care they provided to Marilyn throughout the years following her bypass surgery, and to Jason at Snyder Drugs in Harvey for his helpful and diligent service.
"Our family has lost its guiding spirit, and our only comfort is in the knowledge that she now joins the angels in a place that is free from pain and where there is plenty of ice cream."

Perley's father-in-law Watson DeWolfe was Postmaster before the turn of the century. It looks as if Perley was a clerk before taking that position in 1892-1907 and again in the 20's and/or 30's. At the time of Perley's death son Paul DeWolf Crosier was Postmaster in Halifax Center Post Office until that office closed. Today we have a mail route throught the Center called Jacksonville Stage.
Watson DeWolfe and next son-in-law Perley E. Crosier and wife were proprietors of the General Store in Halifax Center, VT (the same building as the Post Office and birth place for Ruth Wescott, Paul DeWolfe and Clara Stacy Crosier.) Perley and son Paul D. Crosier would go for supplies by horse and wagon, an all day trip, taking many times grains to be ground. On the way they would pick up and deliver library books that were kept in the church at that time.
A Stagecoach went from Jacksonville to Brattleboro, VT and Shelburne, MA pcking up and leaving passengers at Halifax Center and other Post Offices on route, so, need for fresh horses as well as repairs were provided by those offices.
Perley and son Paul provided many other sevices to the summer visitors and neighbors of Halifax, VT.
