From: iberkshires.com
STAMFORD, Vt. - Lloyd Homer Shippee, 89, of Main Road died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, at Williamstown (Mass.) Commons.
Born in Stamford on Sept. 14, 1926, son of Alston L. and Frona Taylor Shippee, the family had operated a dairy farm in the Stamford and North Adams, Mass., area since the late 1920s.
He was an Army veteran.
Mr. Shippee left high school in 1942 when his father died to help his mother run the family farm, with his two younger sisters at home. Years later, he purchased a sawmill that he operated into his 80s. He was known for the teams of oxen that he raised and trained for his lumber business.
He found time for hunting and trapping and enjoyed assisting his mother with the greenhouse and gardens.
He felt fortunate to be a part of the small close-knit Stamford community. His wonderful neighbors and friends were an important part of his life. He will be remembered as "fiercely" independent, living life as he chose and will be greatly missed.
He leaves his sister, Ina C. McKenna of Port Orange, Fla., and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Glenna Plant and two brothers, Vernon and Alston Shippee.
FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mr. Shippee will be Saturday, March 5, at 11 a.m. at Stamford Community Church. Burial will be in the spring in Millard Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to Stamford Community Church in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
