In 1965 a volleyball tournament was held in the gym on board ship. Each department put teams together for the elimination tournament. The officers had a team also. The finals came down to the officers vs. the Operations Department. As the game progressed it wasn't looking too good for the officers. It was a close match but they were getting beat. So half way through the match the ranking officer wanted to change the rules. One of the enlisted men told him to get his "railroad tracks off the court" meaning that rank has no place on an athletic court. . The Operations Department enlisted men walked away with the trophy. Steve Mierzejewski brought the trophy to the 2003 reunion and presented it to Harry Miller for use in the archives.
