Published in The Recorder on Feb. 9, 2016: NORTHFIELD - Michael N. Crochier, 67 of Warwick Rd. Northfield died Saturday evening (2-06-2016) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, Greenfield, MA. He was born August 3, 1948 in Montague, MA the son of Napoleon and Janet (Wonsey) Crochier. Michael served proudly during the Viet Nam War in the U.S. Army, receiving the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with Valour. He was first married to the former Laima Januskevicius, then to the former Patricia Olanyk. On July 2, 1977 he met Kathleen Crochier and they married on February 2, 1988 at Crestwood in Winchester, NH. Early in life he lived in Pinelake, GA for two years returning to this area in November 1979. He worked as a machinist at Strathmore Paper Mill and several other locations. After one of his many motorcycle accidents left him unable to continue that occupation he became a salesman and mechanic for Pioneer Harley Davidson in Bernardston, MA. In 1989 he purchased Pizza Etc. in Bernardston which he and his wife owned until 2002. They then acquired the The Notch Restaurant in Northfield. He was past president of the Ramblers Motorcycle Club, and lifetime member of the Montague Elks, serving as Exalted Ruler from 2001-2002. He was a lifetime member of the Northfield VFW, and did extensive volunteer work at the VA Hospital in Leeds, MA. His passions were first his son, then his motorcycle, taking several trips with his best friends Bernie Tatro, and John McCarthy, the greatest was the Dragons tail ride in 2007. He loved to play golf and was a club member at Oak Ridge Golf Course and Crumpin Fox Country Club. He is survived by his wife the former Kathleen Newton, and his son Michael Brunner and his wife Amy of Lexington, SC. and brothers: Gerald and his wife Teresa of Ardmore, OK. Robert and his companion Sandy of Carver, MA. Peter and his wife Sue of Northfield, MA. Paul of Westfield, MA. and Randy and his wife Alison of Gill, MA. and his sisters: Maryanne Gifford and her husband Michael of Wendell, MA. and Paula Crochier of Greenfield, MA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Douglas, Grace, Glory, Jordan, and Mercy Brunner. Two aunts and several nieces and nephews. There will be a Catholic prayer service on Wednesday (2-10-2016) at Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave., Northfield, MA. at 7 p.m. The Rev. Thomas Lisowski, Pastor of St. Patrick's Church in Northfield will officiate, followed by full military honors. Calling hours will be Wednesday afternoon (2-10-2016) 4 p.m.. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery will be at a later date. He was a longtime woodworker, carpenter and educator in North Adams. Born in North Adams on March 30, 1923, son of Romuald J. and Regina A. Langlois Choquette, he attended North Adams schools, including the former Notre Dame Parochial School. Following his graduation, Mr. Choquette joined his father in R.J. Choquette Construction in North Adams until the outbreak of World War II. He enlisted in the Army Air Force on Dec. 1, 1942, and attended Air Force Cadet School for pilot training and four other Air Force training schools. He also attended Montana State University while serving in the Air Force. He served as a crew chief and crew chief engineer on B-17 Flying Fortresses and was an engine specialist on B-29 Superfortresses. He served as a corporal with the 245th Army Air Force Base Unit until his honorable discharge on June 6, 1946. Following his honorable discharge, Mr. Choquette returned to North Adams and rejoined his father in his construction business until his father retired in 1953. He continued the business until 1962. He then joined the Williams College buildings and grounds crew and served as a carpenter foreman until 1966, when he joined the faculty of Charles H. McCann Vocational Technical High School in North Adams. He taught carpentry at McCann until his retirement in 1986. Following his retirement, Mr. Choquette was self-employed in home building and remodeling. He was a lifelong gardener and maintained his woodworking hobby all of his life. He was a communicant of St. Francisâ€@ Church and a member of the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion of North Adams and a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the National Teachers Association. He leaves his wife, the former Inga Evelyn Nielsen, whom he married March 13, 1948, in North Adams; three daughters, Christine St. Pierre of Williamstown, Cathleen Hines of Marblehead and Colleen Choquette of Mamaroneck, N.Y.; seven sons, Michael Choquette of Santa Barbara, Calif., David Choquette of Stamford, Vt., Paul Choquette of Pittsfield, Mark Choquette of North Adams, Joel Choquette of Bedford, Peter Choquette of Clarksburg and Daniel Choquette of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; a sister, Bernadette Ross of East Longmeadow; 13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services will take place Monday, April 21, at 1 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1:30 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 611 State Road, North Adams. Born in New York City on Oct. 2, 1929, a daughter of Niels and Ingrid Petersen Nielsen, she attended schools in Williamstown. Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Choquette was employed by the former Roberts Co. in North Adams and JT Bus Lines after raising her family. She was a member of the former St. John's Episcopal Church, now All Saints. She was also a member and served on the board of directors of both the Clarksburg Senior Center and the Council on Aging. Her husband, Gerard Joseph "Joe" Choquette, whom she married March 13, 1948, died on April 18, 2003. She leaves her three daughters, Christine St. Pierre and her husband, Michael, Cathleen Hines and her husband, Ken, and Colleen Choquette; seven sons, Michael Choquette, David Choquette, Paul Choquette and his wife, Donna, Mark Choquette, Joel Choquette and his wife, Annie, Peter Choquette, and his wife, Lorraine, and Daniel Choquette and his wife, Lucia; a brother, Victor Nielsen; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters Alice O'Dell and Elsie Hall and her daughter-in-law Nancy Choquette. John H. Hoffman, Jr., 80, a lifelong resident of Stephentown, died suddenly at his residence on Friday. Born on August 4, 1921, he was the son of the late John H. and Eunice White Hoffman. He was the loving husband of Gertrude D. North Hoffman whom he married at the Stephentown Federated Church on May 23, 1992. He was predeceased by his first wife, Clovie E. Staples Hoffman, who died in 1990. After attending school in Stephentown, John was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. He worked briefly for the Rutland Railroad before becoming employed by General Electric in Pittsfield. He served as the Supervisor of the Shipping Department and retired in 1984 after over 30 years of service. John was a 12 year member of the Berlin Central School Board, a member of the Stephentown Fire Department and belonged to the General Electric Quarter Century Club. He loved farming and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Gertrude D. Hoffman, tgwo sons, John Allen and donald W. Hoffman both of Stephentown, grandchildren Michelle, Nicole, Tiara, Danielle and Shauna, two sisters, Ruth Atwater of Stephentown and Dorothy Hoffman Moon Miner of North Adams, Mass., a brother William Hoffman of Cherry Plain, three step-daughters, Hazel foley and Carol Gaige both of Schenectady and jean A. Quigley of W. Hebron, NY; 11 step-grandchildren and 16 step great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Florence Crosier. Funeral services were held on Tuesday from the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home in Stephentown where Rev. Trygve Tomlinson officiated. Burial followed in the Berlin Community Cemetery.
