from: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com, CarolMarchegiani: Message Board Post: I am wondering if anyone has any information on Lucy Adeline "Addie" Oaks' marriage to a Mr. Davis on or about August 1875. Lucy Adeline was born in 1860, the daughter of Hubbard D. & Lydia Athelannah (Blanchard) Oaks of Readsboro, VT. A short item in the 28 August 1875 St. Albans (VT) Daily Messenger says that she ran away with a previously married and divorced man named Davis, and that her father chased them as far as Pownal, VT, but could not catch up with them. Lucy or Addie as she was known, died in Readsboro about a month shy of her 17th birthday. Her death record lists her name as Lucy Adeline Oaks Davis. I would greatly appreciate any help in determining Mr. Davis' first name and where they might have married. Thanks in advance. |
