She had been a resident of Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown since 1994. Born in Adams on April 18, 1917, daughter of John and Anna Walach Ostrobinski, she attended St. Stanislaus' School. Mrs. Poplaski was a member of St. Mary's Church. Her husband, Leon T. Poplaski, whom she married Oct. 19, 1935, died Sept. 22, 1990. She leaves two sons, Donald L. Poplaski of Hot Springs, Ark., and Fred T. Poplaski of Dalton; five daughters, Lillian A. Gajda of Roundrock, Texas, Joan A. Ackley of Lanesboro, Ginger Carrow of Storrs, Conn., Janis Luczynski of Adams and Jane Asher of Cheshire; two brothers, Stanley Ostrobinski and Theodore Ostrobinski, both of Adams; two sisters, Mary Gancarz of Adams and Helen Chouinard of North Adams; 26 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren. Medical Center as a result of a motorcycle accident July 29. Born in Pittsfield on June 17, 1957, son of James A. and Ruth Scace Witherell of Williamstown, he attended schools there and graduated from the Devereau (Pa.) Preparatory School. He received his commercial trucking license after graduating in June from New England Tractor Trailer School. At the time of his death, Mr. Witherell was employed by Taconic Valley Trucking Co. in Pittsfield. He first worked as a salesman at Anderson Furniture Store and with Kirby Vacuum Cleaners, both in Pittsfield, and Brookfield Shoe Store in Lenox. He also worked for Berkshire Custom Coating Co. in Pittsfield and Powder Shield Technologies in Adams. He enjoyed traveling, camping and outdoor activities, including riding his motorcycle, driving his truck and flying kites. Besides his parents, he leaves his wife, the former Mary Ozelek, whom he married May 19, 1978; a daughter, April Witherell of North Adams; four brothers, Eugene Witherell of the state of Florida, James Witherell of Dalton, Kent Witherell of Pittsfield and William Crosier of Syracuse, N.Y.; three sisters, Kate Witherell of Great Barrington, Jeanette Crosier of North Adams and Margaret Crosier of Syracuse; his paternal grandmother, Ethel Parrott of Pittsfield, and a grandson. A family member, Richard Eli "Reggie" Crosier, predeceased him. Born on July 20, 1922 to James M. and Lena (Pierce) Sherman in Charlemont, he was a lifelong resident there. He married the former Ruth M. Parker on Feb. 13, 1948. In his early years, Floyd was a logger and built his own home and in the winter months worked for the ski areas in Charlemont. Later, he was groundskeeper for an exclusive retreat in Rowe, and caretaker for many summer homes in Heath, Rowe and Charlemont. An outdoorsman, he had a love of nature and hunting. He also loved polka music and playing the accordion and harmonica. Survivors include two sons: Lawrence and his wife Eden of the Phillipines and Dohn and his wife Connie of Rowe; his daughter: RuthAnn McCloud and her partner Scott Ripley of Montgomery; four grandchildren: Kischa Sherman, Sara Shallcross, Ben Sherman and Justin Sherman, and several great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to Meals on Wheels, in care of Franklin County Home Health Care, 330 Montague Road, Turners Falls, MA 01376. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home, 104 Bridge St., Shelburne Falls. |

She was a member of the Ashtabula Methodist church and the Cheshire Grange. She leaves a son, Allen H. Chase of Westneld, N. J., a daughter, Mrs Janet Sherman of Pittsfield and a sister, Mrs. Arthur Odeirpf of Williamstown. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the A., C. Simmons funeral parlors. Rev. John H Hyde/pastor of the First Congregational church will officiate. Burial will be in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral parlors will be from 7 to 9 "o'clock this evening, also 2 to 4 and to 9 o'clock tomorrow afternoon and evening. |
